Qayamat

Harry Baweja's desi version of Sean Connery-Nicholas Cage flick, The Rock turned out to be nothing like his previous kerchief capers like Dilwale and Imtihan.

Instead, the Ajay Devgan-Suniel Shetty-Neha Dhupia-Riya Sen starring hostage drama, in Hollywood tradition, delivered a high dose of slick action, peachy camera work and gadget-friendly moments.

Awaara Paagal Deewana

The Whole Nine Yards-inspired Awaara Paagal Deewana gave Akshay Kumar ample opportunity to do Matrix-style action as well as parade as a matador in Spain.

Shot extensively in US, this Vikram Bhatt biggie about goofy criminals, guy-next-doors and dishy femme fatales packed in a little bit of everything.

Too bad, there was nothing spunky or gimmicky about its supposed sequel, Deewane Hue Pagal.

Mohra

There's enough to whistle about in Rajiv Rai's masala outing, Mohra. An expert at action-oriented ritzy multistarrers as witnessed in films like Tridev and Vishwatma, Rai executed another one in the genre with expected ease.

And so you have Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty jumping off twenty feet buildings, punching fists and one-liners, delivering karate chops, multiple face-offs, skillful shoot-out sequences, discotheque item ditty and lots more.

Spirited stunts and a saucy soundtrack ensured a terrific opening for this mast mast movie.

Aatish

Director Sanjay Gupta began his career on a pumping note with G P Sippy's Aatish.

The modern-day Deewar of two brothers on different sides of law featured Sanjay Dutt, Atul Agnihotri and Aditya Panscholi. Whereas Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor played the spicy girlfriends to the best of their abilities.

Gupta's technical finesse and love for lavish budgets was evident in his tendency to can larger-than-life shots in exotic outdoors. Not to forget his uber cool presentation of the stars.

The tradition continues with subsequent high-profile albeit snazzy crime capers like Kaante, Musafir and Zinda.
